Pressure of Society

The pressure of society has a huge connection with the characters in the play. Torvald is more so accepted by society since he is a successful and works at the bank. Nora must feel extreme pressure from society for several reasons.
  • Women felt great pressure from society to live up to standards
-being a good wife, taking care of the home, taking care of the kids
  • Pressure on her marriage (for it not to fail)
-This link talks about society's pressure on marriage. Society's Pressure on Marriage
  • Shes married to a successful man
-She would have to be sure not to do anything to make him look bad. For example, loving another man and having committed a crime in her past.

The pressure Nora faced from society could also explain why she made certain choices. Her leaving Torvald and her kids was most likely her way of just being able to start over and not have to worry about anything anymore. Without her family her lies from the past would mean nothing and she would not have to face the everyday pressures to be a good mother and wife.
